As one of the most successful British car manufacturers ever, Vauxhall has a proud history here in the UK and a long standing relationship with the British Police force. This relationship has now been extended as Vauxhall has now sealed one of the biggest British police car supply deals in history.
The newly signed multi-million pound deal will result in a total of over 2,000 vehicles being provided to police forces across the country. These vehicles will consist of 1,200 brand new Vauxhall Astras, with the classic family hatchback making up more than half of this fleet. This means that as Vauxhall seals a 60% share of the emergency vehicle market within the police force, the Astra will be turning its hand to keeping your families safe whether you are driving one or not!
Other models that will be supplied include the Corsa – consistently one of the best selling cars across the entire country, Vauxhall’s flagship saloon, the Insignias, a well as the Vauxhall Vivaro van that recently sealed a hat-trick of victories at the Business Van Awards 2016, taking the title of Best Green Van, Best Large Trades Van, as well as the prize for overall Van of the Year. These 2000 or so models will make their way across the country to serve a total of 28 police forces, with six fire-and-rescue services also included in the two-year agreement.
Vauxhall believes that one of the key selling points to the UK’s emergency services is their revolutionary OnStar system which effectively allows the cars to become 4G mobile internet hotspot, and also means the car can be shut down remotely.
David Wilkin, West Midlands Police’s Director of Resources, said: “A vehicle purchasing collaboration between police forces and partners on this scale has never been seen before".
